Your result for The Steampunk Archetype Test...

The Crazy Clockwork Tinkerer

What is life? If something simulates life so well that no one knows that it is simulated and treats it like it were alive, would that be just like life? And if you were the one to create this simulated life, would that make you a god of some sort? Quite possibly, and that may be one of the many motivations behind your projects. Your clockwork mechanisms started off simple and cute, but as you attempted to replicate life in your machines, you created bigger mechanisms, golems of gears, that do your bidding. You are a genius, but a crazy genius.

I showed off my iPhone at work this morning. After about 15 minutes of showing off various features and applications, someone finally asked: "So, where's the phone?"

I am currently posting from my new laptop. Dell rocks my socks and makes me squirt like a primo porn star.

Well okay, maybe not like a primo porn star.

Anyway, it's pretty shiny new cool! And purple! And so damned fast. I've now realized it's not my connection but it was phatty that was the problem in the slo-mo department.

As a sidenote, I hate Vista with a passion. After the trip I'm totally partition/XPing this bad girl up. Also, when I purchased the laptop knowing it was 15.4" screen, I didn't realize it was a widescreen and that it would make the laptop so BIG. Ironically, it looks heavier than it is. My only complaint I think is how top heavy it is. I worry when balancing it on my thighs that it's going to fall forward, so I've been using it off my coffee table.

But it works!

Jul. 21st, 2008 @ 11:57 am Odd Dreams
I was in a large, richly decorated house with a huge crowd of other
people. I didn't have a sense of knowing any of them. There were
several people who were in charge of the group, but were not members of
it. They didn't talk much to us at first, and I got the sense that they
not like us in some fundamental way (alien, perhaps?), and were somewhat
disgusted by us.

We were all waiting for something to happen, and had been for some time.
As time progressed, people started getting anxious and several people
decided not to wait any longer and attempted to leave. They were told
as they were exiting the building that this was not allowed. The
'others' ordered them to return to the house. They started milling
about in the street a bit as the group decided whether to disobey the
order. Some decided to continue away from the house. As they moved
across the street, the 'others' began shooting them down. (No lasers...
just guns, so maybe they weren't aliens after all).

The people still inside who had access to the windows started panicking
and pandemonium ensued within the house as the fear level rose. I found
myself an interior room that wasn't too packed with people and sat by
myself. I could feel everyone else's panic in the house, but it didn't
really reach me. I sat on the floor with my back against the wall for a
long time, just waiting.

At some point, the 'others' started shepherding us to a room in the
house where people were placed in pairs into something resembling a
fancy mine car. Each pair was then pushed down a long incline where
they disappeared into a hole in the wall. When my turn came, I found
that my partner was Kermie. The woman who loaded us into our car looked
daggers at me and I sensed extreme hatred from her, but I didn't know
why. As we were pushed off I looked back at her and she was pushing
another empty car right after us. This frightened me (and that was the
first emotion I felt in the dream) and I told Kermie that the car behind
us was going to crash into us.

When we reached the end of the track, the car did slam into us and
Kermie abdomen was hurt, although we couldn't see any damage from the
outside. A man helped us out of the wreckage and examined him with an
odd device that allowed him to visualize his internal organs. He told
us that Kermie's 'pipes were leaking'. He also told me that the woman
up above had tried to kill me because I had somehow caused someone she
knew to die and she wanted revenge. He and I helped Kermie to another
place which resembled a boardwalk at the beach and then he left. Kermie
was in excruciating pain and I was trying to get someone to stop and
help him, but no-one would. All of the people in this place were
'others' and they barely even looked at us.

I wandered farther from Kermie, still searching for help. When I
returned, an old man was talking to him. He left when I reached
Kermie's side. Kermie told me that the old man knows a woman who might
perform surgery on him to fix him up. He called her a 'lundgesh' and he
said the man was going to get her. It sounded to me like this lady was
some sort of witch doctor and I was concerned. So I set out after the
old man. When I caught up with him, he was with the lundgesh. We had a
bit of trouble communicating, but I realized that she was a student,
studying to be a healer and that she'd only just started her studies. I
didn't want Kermie having anything to do with that, so I hurried back to
where I'd left him.

He wasn't there. I found that he'd been moved into a medical facility
of sorts. When I stepped into the ward that they'd put him in, I found
the room full of these 'others' who were in the process of a
transformation. They were changing colors and reshaping their bodies
and they all looked to be in tremendous pain. The reshaping appeared to
be accomplished by strange metal rigging that stressed the body parts
into the desired spots. It was really gruesome. Kermie was at the far
end of the room and I had to thread my way past dozens of these people.
Halfway through, the room started shaking and I fell into a group of
these patients. I couldn't get my balance, and I kept hitting their
rigging and stepping on them. I thought I was hurting them, but then I
realized the noises they were making were more pleasure than pain as
though I'd stumbled into some warped masochistic haven. I struggled to
reach Kermie through the mess of patients, but I woke up before I got to
him.

The other dream I had felt strange to me, but it was a lot less vivid.
The only things I remember from it were that someone was looking for
something at Diane's house and they tangled up all the fishing lines in
the process, so I was trying to sort out the lines so we could catch a
bunch of fish.

Jul. 20th, 2008 @ 06:45 pm 39 years...
Thirty-nine years ago I rode over to a friends house on my bike and we watched Neil Armstrong step out onto the moon.

In 1974, I and a different friend agreed to meet in 2001 in Luna Citry. And we fully expected that the only problem would be affording it.

Now?

We are maybe equalling the *first* space station we had (Skylab). And we let that crash in 1979 because NASA had put all our eggs in one basket by making deals that killed all other manned and heavy lift missions for the Space Shuttle. So when it wasn't ready to fly in 1979, and Congress couldn't be bothered to fund a mission for boost it into a higher orbit, we took a giant step backwards.

Now? I don't really expect to see manned missions beyond orbits the Shuttle can reach in my lifetime. And if they do happen, I bet they won't be American. Likely Chinese, maybe Japanese.

Looking back on Apollo 11, I'm finding that my mind want to call up the last scene in Planet of the Apes. We didn't blow it up, but we've certainly thrown it away.

And if we aren't careful, we may screw things up badly enough that we never get back out there (if anything happened that kicked us back to WWII level tech or lower, we'd have a hard time building back up because we've used up all the easy to get at metal ores and fossil fuels (except coal).

And the stupidest thing of all is that if we'd gone on and built a moonbase and a decent space station, we'd have learned stuff from their life support systems that'd help with environmental problems on earth.

Current Mood: so very ill
Petrified in alcohol.

I drank so much that I can't remember half of what happened, and I spent almost an hour vomiting into a toilet. Then I passed out a few times.

So bad.

Baileys definitely are not my friend. Neither is indian food if I plan to drink after.

At least I didn't send embarassing messages to .... oh no wait, I did that too.

So all in all, an effective weekend, right?

Jul. 20th, 2008 @ 08:05 am Moved in...
The house is a two story Arts and Crafts style home, built in 1920.  It is a livable fixer, it does need work, but it's the summer, so we have time.

Three bedrooms upstairs, two of which have large walk in closets, the third, used as an office by the landlords, has a small walk in nook area that I originally was going to use as an altar room/meditation room...BUT...we decided to move the bedroom to that room so it will become my closet.  The room we're using now as a bedroom, the closet there will be for storage and for Spike's closet.

The full bath is downstairs, the upstairs bathroom is a 1/2 bath but has a large walk in closet....well, not even a closet per se.  It's bigger than the bathroom itself and needs to be finished.  We're thinking maybe a shower stall and some cabinets or shelves.

The upstairs hall, stairs, and two of the bedrooms will need carpet.  I'm painting the rooms as well, so while my bedroom's color is already chosen, we're not sure about the other rooms yet.  I'm trying to find colors that would suit the house.

Downstairs, has a kitchen, living room, and bonus room/den.  We're using the bonus room as an office.  There's no door, just a large doorway/entryway, so I hung up a curtain to go between the two areas.

The kitchen is OLD...the cabinets ancient and the counter tops ugly and damaged.  Needs new cabinetry and counters, but it's large enough to put in a table and chairs.  I can see one of those farmhouse benches and table setups, that go in a corner.

The house has a basement that looks like it had been a garage at one time  Part of the door was framed in, so now there's only a small door tat leads room the basement to the outside, and the basement is ground level in the back.  It's got a workbench for Spike's tools, as well as the washer and dryer, and holds out small chest freezer and will hold the extra fridge we're getting from my sister.

The outside definitely needs work.  All the windows need replacing, the gutters need replacing.  The front porch and deck needs replacing, the house needs a new coat of paint.

We have a detached double garage but the landlords are using it for storage right now.  We're not being charged full rent at this point because of that.

Small actual yard, although technically, the property line runs all the way to the road and it contains a small field in the front, though the fencing is white panel and broken down.  Would need to be replaced.  The landlords are thinking of subdividing the property and selling that front half.  I think if we tried to get the house on a contract, we'd want that property.

All in all, despite the work this places needs, it has a good feel to it.  Even my mother said that when she first walked in, she got a good feeling about it.  I did too but I cleansed the house and smudged it with Sage as a precaution.

Master bedroom will be a Chinese Lacquer Red color, although not sure what the trim color will be.  The kid's room is a dark lavender color now, we'll probably keep it that way.  The extra bedroom, which will be used as a dressing room/guest room, I have no idea what color just yet.  The stairway and upper hall will be a teal green blue color, I think.  We want something cool yet soothing and welcoming.

I might look into Art Deco colors to get an idea.
